Armed Security Officer: Evening Shift 3pm-11pm
Purpose of Position and Scope of Responsibility: Is responsible for carrying out the goals and mission of Ë¿¹ÏÊÓÆµ and the Department of Safety and Security. This person is responsible for patrolling, securing, and protecting the university campus to ensure a safe work and educational environment for all students, staff, faculty, and campus visitors. This position is for the main campus in McKenzie, Tennessee; however, officers may be required to perform duties at off-campus properties or other campus locations.
Under the general direction of Dean of Students.
Under the direct supervision of Chief of Security.
Responsible for 1 shift, 8 hours/day, 5 days/week. Incumbents are subject to overtime as deemed necessary.
Principal Accountabilities/Responsibilities:
- Engage in direct interactions and building relationships with the campus community, including students, staff, and faculty to encourage a safe and positive campus environment.
- Conduct regular and random patrols around the campus and through campus facilities, by vehicle and on foot, and maintain alertness for any signs of abnormal conditions or unusual activities.
- Responsible for locking and unlocking of facilities in accordance with department procedures.
- Ability to analyze and respond to incidents and other critical situations firmly and professionally using problem solving, critical-thinking, and de-escalation techniques, when applicable.
- Be of good moral character, possess excellent communication skills, and be highly organized and able to multi-task and prioritize duties and responsibilities.
- Respond to general calls for assistance and other related tasks.
- Complete required computer work in accordance with department procedures, including shift notes, incident and accident reports, parking citations, and reviewing surveillance cameras.
- Performs related accountabilities/responsibilities as required or directed.

Minimum Qualifications | |
Knowledge/Education Experience Licensure, Registration, Certification | Be at least 25 years of age. High School Diploma or equivalent. Security experience is preferred. Possess a valid drivers license and reliable transportation. Pass a background check, drug screening, and psychological examination. Able to obtain an Armed Security License, Aerosol and Handcuff certification, and CPR/AED certification. |
Desired Qualifications | |
Knowledge/Education Experience Licensure, Registration, Certification | Bachelor Degree 1-2 years experience in armed security or comparable experience is desired. Armed Security License, Aerosol and Handcuff certification, and CPR/AED certification. |
Physical Requirements:
Work requires the physical demands of standing, bending, lifting, stooping or performing other work requiring light physical exertion (up to 30 pounds) on an occasional basis (up to 15% of time) and frequent walking; or moderate physical exertion (up to 50 pounds) on an intermittent basis (not a routine part of the job).
Environmental Conditions:
Work involves intermittent to occasional exposure to unpleasant working conditions or undesirable elements; may involve some contact with potentially hazardous or harmful elements in providing administrative or support services.
